January´s monthly event was "Good and bad feminists of Cluj" in order to welcome everyone no matter their stance or knowledge of this much-debated word. 2017 was ended with the announcement that the word of the year by Merriam-Webster was.. FEMINISM.
There were many good and bad feminists that gathered for the event, ready to discuss.
The main 3 topics were: the female feminist, the male feminist and the ideal feminist society.
Acknowledging the past but try to focus on the future of feminism in Romania
People of all ages and experiences filled and overfilled the room where the discussion was moderated by Beatrice. And slowly more and more opinions were voiced on the matter. Men and women alike, one young man that attended brought a huge sense of hope for the future but also an understanding of the present. Talking about the way he saw the world in the most equal of ways, yet also not quite comfortable with being a feminist. If more young men would be this open-minded and open to discussion we would get much further, not to say that this was not inspiring to see.
The outcome from the event
We hope that we managed to create an open space for discussion on feminism, where everyone felt heard and respected. Where hopefully everyone left with something new. Feminism is a complex topic we focused on an open and basic discussion on the matters at hand, in order for everyone to feel welcome. We look forward to future discussions where the onion layers that is feminism can be peeled further and expose many more topics to discuss.
Feminism sill remains misunderstood in its basic definition, but most can agree that equal world is what we all strive for in the end
The negative competition between women is a social construct in many ways, that we don't need to continue with. Focus more on supporting strong and beautiful women, rather than pushing them down to feel better
Men are more interested and passionate about equality, once they are spoken to as equals rather than the problem
Critical thinking and discussion leads to true change
